ASP Begins Construction of Two 49,500 DWT Methanol Dual-Fuel Tankers
Guangzhou, China — Asia Pacific Shipping (ASP) recently held the Steel-Cutting Ceremony at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for two new 49,500 DWT methanol dual-fuel chemical/product oil tankers.
With a total investment of approximately US$100 million, the project represents an important step in ASP’s fleet development programme and its continued investment in modern and more efficient tanker tonnage. The two vessels are part of a larger programme of 20 newbuildings ordered by ASP in 2024.
A Milestone in ASP’s Fleet Expansion
The construction of these two vessels marks an important milestone in ASP’s ongoing fleet development. The methanol dual-fuel tankers are designed to support efficient vessel operations while meeting applicable international environmental requirements.
The project forms part of ASP’s broader strategy to expand and modernise its fleet and strengthen its ability to serve international shipping markets.
As a representative of Asia Pacific Shipping, Ms. Nguyen Quynh Anh noted:
“These vessels not only enhance our fleet and help us serve our clients more effectively, but also reaffirm our commitment to advancing sustainable practices within the industry.”
Investing in a Modern and More Efficient Fleet
ASP continues to invest in newbuilding projects that strengthen its tanker fleet and support long-term operational efficiency.
The introduction of methanol dual-fuel technology reflects ASP’s approach to fleet renewal and its continued interest in vessel technologies that support more efficient and environmentally responsible maritime operations.
Strengthening Cooperation with GSI
The project also strengthens ASP’s cooperation with Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in the development of modern tanker tonnage.
Working with experienced shipbuilding and maritime partners is an important part of ASP’s approach to fleet development, supporting the delivery of vessels that meet operational, technical and regulatory requirements.
Building for Long-Term Growth
At the time of the Steel-Cutting Ceremony, ASP’s fleet comprised 24 vessels, including 22 owned vessels, covering bulk carriers, LPG tankers and oil/chemical tankers.
The two 49,500 DWT methanol dual-fuel tankers were scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2026, contributing to ASP’s broader fleet expansion and renewal programme.
Supporting Sustainable Maritime Development
The adoption of methanol dual-fuel technology forms part of ASP’s efforts to develop a more modern and efficient fleet.
By investing in newbuilding projects and newer vessel technologies, ASP aims to strengthen operational efficiency while supporting responsible development in the maritime sector.
Looking Ahead
ASP will continue to develop its fleet through vessel acquisitions and newbuilding projects, with a focus on safe, efficient and reliable vessel operations.
The construction of these two methanol dual-fuel tankers represents another step in ASP’s journey to build a modern Vietnamese shipowning platform serving international markets.
